Germany, Wehrmacht. A War Merit Cross, I Class With Swords United Republic of Prisoner of War in Egypt(Kriegsverdienstkreuz I. Klasse mit Schwertern). Constructed of silvered tombak, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with an a vertical pinback and an inscription of FESTUNG ST. NAZAIRE 1944 1945, both the pinback and inscription display evidence of postwar addition, measuring 48. 75 mm (w) x 48. 04 mm (h), weighing 24. 6 grams, in better than very fine condition.
